PhD Comics Movie: second screening!

The screening of the PhD Comics Movie together with Deloitte turned out to be a success! Unfortunately we could net welcome everybody who registered, because of limited seating. That is why we decided to give a second screening, to give all of you a chance to see the movie!

We are still working on the details, but it will take place on March 22 at 17.30 in room Blue in the Ruppert-building. Until then, you can watch the trailer online. See the PhD comics movie for more details.

C2W Career Expo

Wednesday 28 March 2012 marks the 5th edition of the C2W career expo, organised by C2W and the KNCV. This career event in the Jaarbeurs Utrecht is all about careers in chemistry, life sciences, food pharma, laboratory and process technology.

Just like previous editions many companies will present themselves on the exhibition floor. Powered by the KNCV, the programme contains many interesting lectures, such as: applying for a job through social media, the advantages and disadvantages of promotion, presentations of various companies and much more!

The National PhD Congress

On Friday the 16th and Saturday the 17th of march The National PhD congress will take place, parallel to The National Career Fair (De Nationale Carrièrebeurs) in Amsterdam RAI. This 15th edition will be festively opened by Prince Willem-Alexander and closed with musical performances of Dutch singer René Froger and Iris Kroes (The Voice of Holland).

The National PhD congress is the career event for (future) PhD students. At this event there will be companies as well as Universities present that want to get in contact with you!

The PCDI Postdoc Retreat is a 3-day course for final year PhD students and postdocs in the Life Sciences and focuses on personal, professional and career development of young scientists.

Regardless of how talented or passionate you are about science, positions in academia are scarce and only 1 out of 10 PhDs will eventually make it to a principle investigator. Take part from 28 – 30 March 2012 to find out from how to take charge of your future: It involves much more than winning grants and a strong publication record.

Work out with 80 – 100 fellow young scientists what is important to you when it comes to professional development. Discover your hidden skills and improve your transferable skills at the training workshops. Attend inspiring keynote lectures by successful PhDs, discuss with key players in the Life Sciences and develop a vision at our forum about your position as a young scientist in society. Network with successful PhDs who followed very different career paths. They are invited to give you a kick-start in career orientation.

No matter whether you have a career in academia or elsewhere in mind, at the PCDI Postdoc Retreat you will hear how your PhD can be a stepping stone to success. This career event has been attended by >600 early career scientists, including researchers from abroad.
